  1. My struggling readers really benefit from having books read to them. One site I really like to use is Tumblebooks. This allows students to follow along with the words as they are being read. They are also able to hear what a fluent reader sounds like.

  2. Tumblebooks looks like a very motivating site. Nickelodeon also has books of high profiled characters for younger students. I have difficulty motivating my 8th graders, because they are no longer into "little" kid books.

  3. Our PTO purchased Raz-Kids accounts for all our teachers at my school. The students LOVE it! As the teacher you set the level for each student and they work through reading books, listening to books, and taking comprehension quizzes. The program moves the student up when they score well or the teacher can change the level at any time. The students earn points for the different activities which can be used in their Raz Rocket. Plus the students could access their accounts at home. Many of my students did because they wanted to move up a level.

  4. I have a classroom subscription to Time Magazine and my students really enjoy it.
They like being able to read from something other than their textbook. The magazine also has great visuals which aid in the students learning and understanding. Also the information that they are obtaining is current and relevant.
I use this mostly in our "current topics" activities.
